Teck said a flash fire occurred about 11am local time at the mine’s dryer complex. This is not the first issue there as the mine’s coal dryer exploded in a separate incident in mid-2010.

Mining resumed at Greenhill later on Sunday night with the fire quickly extinguished.

Teck said three of its workers received non-life threatening injuries with local press reporting that second and third degree burns were inflicted.

“The cause of the incident is not known at this time,” Teck said.

“Appropriate regulatory authorities have been notified and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident. There is no major impact to the operation.”
