Visibility while operating machinery is challenging across all underground mining operations, due to operator line of site, and the need for personnel to work in close proximity to the operating equipment. Operating large machinery in limited areas exposes employees to serious injury and possibly death.
The Infra-Red Thermal Camera technology reduces risk to persons from machinery operating in close proximity to people with low visibility. It aims to provide operators with the ability to detect people in traditional blind spots.
The other Innovation Awards announced at the conference dinner included Anglo American Grosvenor mine’s Shuttle Car Cable Reel Interlock Valve in the Highly Commended category and Glencore’s Oaky North Underground’s QDS Tyre Handler in the People’s Choice category.
The 2015 QMIH&SC receives the tripartite patronage of industry, mining unions and the Queensland Government and continues to attract the largest number of delegates for any mining safety symposium in Australia.
