A report by the National Development and Reform Commission found the sector’s growth rate was 1.25% above 2005 for the two months, Asia Pulse reported.
The output of key state-owned coal mines is up 4.7%, while that of local state-owned coal mines and township coal mines declined by 26.4% and 14.9% respectively.
During January and February China exported 9.4Mt, down 20.2%.
China’s coal inventory level of 127Mt at year-end was an increase of 35% over 2004.
The NDRC said in 2005 China's coal output increased to 1.9 billion tonnes, up 8%. Coal exports were 65Mt, down 17%, while coal imports rose 40% to 24Mt.
China's total demand for coal in 2006 is predicted to hit 2 billion tonnes, with domestic demand 197Bt. China will consume 1.09Bt of coal to generate electricity.
