Carbon capture technology arrives down under

AUSTRALIAN company EESTech has secured the Asia-Pacific rights to HTC Purenergy's advanced carbon capture and storage system, the Purenergy CO2 Capture System.

The Purenergy CCS is the first pre-engineered CO2 capture system, and can be retrofitted onto existing power plants and other large industrial greenhouse gas emitters.

Brisbane-based company EESTech will be able to use Purenergy technology with its existing Hybrid Coal Gas Turbine, a system that can produce electricity from waste coal dust and fugitive vented methane gas.

When integrated, the HCGT and Purenergy CCS will form a stand-alone hybrid CO2 capture system that does not disrupt industrial emitters' plants. Using the system, companies will be able to utilise products such as low-grade waste coal and coal seam gas to efficiently generate the necessary steam and electricity for the carbon capture process.

EESTech chief operating officer Graeme Lynch said the acquisition places EESTech as a leading provider of clean coal and carbon capture technologies.

“The Purenergy CCS will capture carbon dioxide from the flue gas exhaust of power plants and large industrial emitters. The captured carbon dioxide will then be used for carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery or be stored underground,” Lynch said.

“This system will be pre-engineered, pre-built and modularly constructed."

EESTech has secured electricity supply agreements in China with contract revenue potential of over $100 million for each system installed.
