Floods hurt persists for Macarthur

Sales from Coppabella were down for the June quarter, but were better than Macarthur had expected with 1.16 million tonnes shipped. The flooding has affected overburden removal, which was down 27% for the June quarter.

Sales for the 2008 financial year totalled 3.94Mt.

While Coppabella remains under force majeure, Macarthur said it would look towards lifting it late this year.

At Moorvale, run-of-mine production was down for the June quarter, but Macarthur was able to make up ground on sales which were 42% higher thanks to processing of stockpiled thermal coal.

Macarthur said overburden removal rates had been impacted by measures to control geotechnical conditions.

Macarthur was trading mid-morning up 4.82% at $A15.88.
