The bookie is offering odds of $1.60 for the station to be decommissioned, $2.88 for someone to commit to running it for another five years beyond 2022 and $5 that the plant will be sold.

On the thought of who might buy the aging station Sportsbet is offering $2 on the NSW government, $3 on Delta Energy, $7 on Origin and $10 on Energy Australia. There is a silly side bet paying $51 on Clive Palmer snapping it up.

According to Sportsbet, Canberra is the state or territory most likely to suffer a full state blackout. It is paying $3.25 on that bet.

“The future is not looking good for the Liddell power plant and if you live in Canberra, I’d suggest you stock up on candles and torches,” Sportsbet’s Will Byrne said.
