Wambo closes

ANOTHER longwall mine closed last week, with a loss of 80 jobs.

The Wambo mine, near Singleton in NSW, is 75% owned by private company Excel Equities and investment company Eureka Capital Partners.

In the year ended June 2002, the mine produced a respectable 3.164 million tonnes of coal.

The mine was scheduled to be closed by August this year with operations to shift to a large open-cut proven reserve of 45Mt.
