Significant new appointments include Ross Dill as director of HR and business improvement, George Carpenter as director operations, and Stephen Newson, who joined the company as director of sales.
Newson has extensive international longwall mining experience, most recently as technical services manager with the Moranbah North mine in Queensland. Carpenter too brings a wealth of experience with a range of original equipment manufacturers, including Dowty, Meco, Dobson Park and Joy.
An important change within Joy's sales team is the introduction of four specialist product managers, each responsible for one of four areas - shearers, shields and AFC’s, miners and haulage, and electronic controls systems - across Joy's client base.
Joy Australia has appointed Ken McCallum (shearers); Colin Merriman (AFCs and supports); and Bill Furniss (miners and haulage). The manager, electronic control systems, is expected to be appointed in the near term.
A longer version of this article, detailing some of the plans of the new directors, will appear in the March 2001 edition of Australia’s Longwalls.
