LaserBond has been around for almost 30 years, developing surface engineering technologies that extend plant and machinery life, improve resistance to wear and corrosion, increase reliability, and reduce maintenance and replacement costs.

Under the scope of the signed agreement, Laserbond will design, build and supply the LMD system, with Curtin to provide research, training, demonstration and delivery of applications and materials for the mining sector.

The deal gives Laserbond a foot in the door to WA, with a demonstration facility to be established at Curtin to showcase Laserbond technology to potential WA industry partners.

Laserbond CEO Wayne Hooper said Curtin was the largest university in WA and had a strong focus on industry collaboration and partnerships, especially with the energy and resource sectors.

"It is an ideal partner for Laserbond to strengthen its research and development of applications and materials for these sectors, as well as providing a showcase for our technology in the resource rich state of Western Australia," he said.

Hooper said the company had further developed strong interest from potential technology licensees in overseas markets and was confident of achieving additional technology sales next year.
