Production from New Hope's 80% owned Bengalla open cut mine in NSW was also 7.8% down to 2.3Mt because of unscheduled maintenance.
"The company remains focused on cost saving initiatives and equipment productivity improvements which are generating strong returns," New Hope said.
Turning to New Hope's Queensland operations, RoM coal production for the April quarter was up 15.6% to 986,000t.
Final coal will be extracted from the New Acland mine in late October or early November with the operation transitioning into care and maintenance before the end of the calendar year. That is unless there is a shift on the New Acland Stage 3 approvals.
The Land Court hearing for Stage 3 approvals is reserved for November.
"Rehabilitation work continues at New Acland," New Hope said.
"Late season seeding of rehabilitated areas at West Moreton performed well due to good rain fall."
