As part of a signed services contract Matrix is using its composites production facility in Henderson, south of Perth, to design and build equipment and materials technologies to support FFI's green hydrogen objectives.
Initial design work has started on lightweight carbon fibre composites and thermoplastics that can replace stainless steels in high pressure commercial green hydrogen equipment.
Matrix will not benefit financially from initial works, however, there is scope for more work and orders in the future, if the products are successful.
Matrix CEO Aaron Begley said works would leverage Matrix's industry-leading proficiency.
"Our collaboration with FFI has the potential to unlock significant opportunities in the future, which will utilise our core capabilities in a rapidly growing industry," he said.
FFI CEO Julie Shuttleworth said partnering with Matrix would help FFI realise its global green hydrogen production ambitions, while supporting the local Western Australian economy.
"It is particularly pleasing to see two WA companies working together to develop technologies for industrial-scale hydrogen production to help meet the energy needs of the future," she said.
