The five-year contract would see Thiess conduct mine planning, overburden removal, and coal mining at Teguh Sina Abadi (TSA) and Firman Ketaun Perkasa (FKP) mines as part of the Bayan’s expansion plans.
Thiess will also be responsible for loading and transporting ore from the minesite to the river port.
By year three of operations, the contractor will mine around 4 million tonnes of coal and 40 million bank cubic metres of overburden per annum.
Bayan has supplied the equipment that is on site and Thiess is expected to begin work immediately.
“The TSA/FKP mines are a key project for Thiess as it is the first with the expanding Bayan Group and is also an important step in our Indonesian diversification strategy,” Thiess managing director David Saxelby said.
“It will provide us an opportunity to reinforce within the market the depth of expertise within our mining and construction business in Indonesia.”
Over the past six months, Thiess has secured three resources contracts in Indonesia, taking its Indonesian contract total to more than $A2 billion.
