The company said Friday that the Green team took first-division honors in its class, and also finished at the top of the firefighting and mine rescue field problems contests during the biennial event in Beckley.
The men qualified for the nationwide contest by placing first in the West Virginia Alliance Mine Rescue Contest in May.
“This is another outstanding finish for Mountain Laurel's emergency responders,” Arch senior vice president of operations Kenneth Cochran said.
“Training and competing sharpen our skills, and further our focus on mine safety.”
Twenty-three teams participated in the Division 1 competition.
Winner of the event’s Division 2 class, Alpha Natural Resources, confirmed their achievements last week.
Of the 15 teams that took part in Division 2, Alpha swept all three top spots overall. First place went to Kingston White, second was earned by Rockspring Gold and third was taken by Brooks Run South.
