The school said teams from the University of British Columbia as well as the Missouri University of Science and Technology would take part in the February 21-23 event, during which time all teams would practice mine rescue skills in a realistic setting during a mock mine disaster.
The MERD will include a field problem, technician test, first aid test and practice on the Colorado School of Mines-Mine Safety and Health Program's mine rescue computer simulator.
The contest follows the inaugural intercollegiate gathering held in 2011 at the Idaho Springs facility in which four schools participated, including Colorado School of Mines Silver and Blue, Penn State, the University of British Columbia and the University of Arizona.
