Mead said he would make the journey with several business leaders, identified in local media as representatives of Arch Coal and Cloud Peak Energy.
The governor will tour a coal port in Vancouver, British Columbia, to learn about the province’s export strategy, opportunities, challenges and limitations. He also will visit Suncor’s oil sands operations in Alberta.
“Canada is Wyoming’s largest foreign trade partner,” Mead said.
“We do about $2 billion worth of trade per year and there are even more opportunities to develop in Canada.
“Part of my goal is to build on our relationships. There are Canadian companies that are important to our economy and some Wyoming companies have already established themselves in Canada.”
Mead’s office said his trip also would include a tour of an LNG engine manufacturer and the largest hydrocarbon processing center in Canada. He also will meet with Canadian companies that operate in his state.
“From the coal ports near Vancouver to Alberta’s energy companies, Canada is integrally tied to Wyoming’s current economy and our future,” he said.
Mead departs on June 12 and will return to Wyoming June 19.
