“The Mile High Mining Hub”, set for March 19-22 at the Westin Denver, is being held separately from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition, which this year will convene in Seattle.

Among the presentations planned for the event are:

  • The Oak Mesa project: the next stage in Colorado coal mining – Jim Cooper, Oxbow Mining
  • Energizing our future with green coal; one BTU at a time – Frederick Palmer, Peabody Energy
  • The Colowyo mine: under new ownership – Duane Richards, Western Fuels Association
  • Impacts of Environmental Protection Agency regulation on coal – attorney Eugene Trisko
  • Educating the next generation of mining professionals – Dr MW Scoggins, Colorado School of Mines.

An exhibition hall with more than 70 booths will be open during the event.

According to the CMA, Colorado is the nation’s 11th top coal producer, the number one producer of molybdenum, the fourth-leading producer of gold and the only source of specialty minerals like pure sodium bicarbonate.

The CMA has over 950 members, including 171 industry companies from across all types of mining.
