The event will convene at the agency’s mine safety training center in Cadiz on June 20. The first team will begin at 8am and the competition is expected to wrap at 5pm.
Thirteen coal mine teams from across Ohio will be part of an outdoor mine rescue exercise as well as an indoor darkened mine simulation activity with smoke and a bench exercise using the facility’s realistically-designed recreation of an underground operation.
Those competing in the contest include teams from Post 6 winner Ohio Valley Coal, Rosebud Mining, Hopedale Mining, Buckingham Coal, Gatling Coal, Sterling Mining and American Energy.
“Mine safety competitions help develop and test the skills of mine rescue teams by using simulated mine emergency conditions, such as those found at the simulated mine at ODNR’s Mine Safety Training Center,” ODNR officials said.
“Such training could save lives during an actual mine emergency.”
