Principal Mark Newton said the aim of the company is to supply premium quality mining and lifting chain, flight bars and associated products. Parsons Chain supplies BSL and AFC chains in sizes ranging from 26mm-48mm.
“Parsons Cor-X quality is the only proven stress corrosion resistant chain available on the market today,” Newton said. “Xtra quality has the maximum breaking stress commercially available with very hard crowns and tough link sides.”
To allow the company to provide a total package in Australia it has formed an alliance with Conveyor Engineering Solutions (CES). CES has workshop facilities, engineering and design capability and manufacturing and sourcing expertise said CES managing director Mark Elliott. Assembly of chain/flight packages will be part of the joint service.
Newton also said future plans included tailoring product in worn applications to give new life to conveying equipment. Rather than simply replacing with standard new components, special forgings might be undertaken, as an example, to fit a worn profile.
In addition, in the wake of the failure of National Forge, Newton believes there is still an opportunity to explore locally made forging of such items. Further news on this development was expected towards year-end.
CES is also the distributor of Rockwell Automation products, in particular the CST Controlled Start Transmission and “LiquiFlo” vector drive units. Seven CST’s have been recently supplied to MIM’s Bowen Basin mines and they remain the benchmark for the major operators, Elliott said.
Another recent development is the Australian release of Rockwell’s Reliance range of Global Series electric motors, which to date have had limited marketing in Australia. Reliance motors are virtually the standard motor used in longwall mines in the US but until recently the product has not been readily available in Australia. Elliott believes that sales volume will grow steadily as the local market comes to understand the product quality and competitiveness.
The Global Series motor design features a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) motor with excellent torque characteristics. The range includes inverter duty motors that have corona free insulation design and current insulated bearings.
To strengthen the applications knowledge and customer support, Rockwell have recently appointed Rick Sewell who comes with a broad mining background most recently in the Bowen Basin.
