The company said in a press statement there were significant synergies between the companies, with Hunter Control's engineering services closely mirroring Matrikon's.

Hunter Control's products, including the advanced control technology, UNAC, are complementary technologies that fit within the framework of Matrikon's total solutions. The company has been Matrikon's Australian product distributor for over a year and its employees are trained on Matrikon's products.

The company said that by combining the technologies, resources, geography and domain expertise of the two companies, Matrikon is positioned to significantly broaden and enhance its advanced control offering. It would be able to build a mining industry solution suite to meet growing industry demand for optimization solutions that reduce production costs. In addition, Matrikon will be able to accelerate market penetration in the Australian and Asian markets.

"With this acquisition, along with our ramped up office in the Middle East, Matrikon is well positioned to tackle the Asian and Middle East markets where we believe there is tremendous growth potential," said Amin Rawji, executive vice president of Matrikon.

"Matrikon is now a truly global company with a global presence."

Three Matrikon employees have moved to Australia to head up operations and ensure a smooth integration. Floyd Bjorgan, who recently served as the General Manager with responsibilities for all remote offices has relocated to Australia in his new capacity as managing director for Australian operations.

Parin Allidina, a Matrikon veteran who developed many of the original accounting and control processes within Matrikon, has also relocated and will manage the accounting and administrative functions. Ivan Kljajic, a lead software developer at Matrikon, who most recently led the development of ProcessDoctor, will lead the development and integration of the advanced control products.

Hunter Control was established in 1983 and is one of the largest independent system integrators in Australia, offering a complete range of services from plant automation to advanced plant control.
