The FIFO Family Project is hosting a one-hour webinar with renowned child psychotherapist Dr Joanna Fortune on November 21 that promises to give fly-in, fly-out parents in Western Australia tips on how to make every phone call and Face Time moment count.

The How to Connect with Your Kids in 15 Minutes event will be held online via Zoom from 6pm to 7pm. Tickets to the event are available.

FIFO Family Project founder Vicky Pellowe said the online event would teach FIFO parents meaningful and quick connection techniques they could use to strengthen their family bonds while navigating the challenges of working away.

Pellowe said Fortune was a global authority on child and adolescent therapy with more than two decades of experience.

"Her insights will be transformative and the short, focused connection techniques are uniquely suited to the limitations many FIFO parents face," Pellowe said.

"This webinar is about maximising quality over quantity because even just a few minutes of genuine engagement can create lasting emotional security for kids, even if one parent isn't physically present."

Fortune's 15-Minute Parenting series shows busy and time-poor parents how to connect with their kids in mindful and practical ways.

Utilising a simple and effective roadmap, Fortune said family life could be transformed in just 15 minutes.

Pellowe said Fortune's guidance was particularly valuable for families separated by distance.

"Our goal is to ensure that FIFO parents feel equipped to maintain deep, positive relationships with their children, no matter the physical distance," she said.

"This webinar is a game-changer for any FIFO parent looking to make time with their kids more meaningful."

Pellowe said the FIFO Family Project began as a solution to a lack of support for FIFO families.

"We provide community events, educational resources and workforce well-being initiatives to ensure every member of the FIFO Family receives the necessary support to successfully navigate this unique lifestyle," she said.
