Canadian miner scouts Pakistan coal

United mined the tonnage on an experimental basis from exploratory adits and tested the coal to have an ash content of between 20% and 30%, moisture under 10% and a gross calorific value of 4000 to 6000 kilocalories per kilogram.

The miner said the coal’s sale to a local cement maker testified to the product’s utility in cement production kilns and helped offset the cost of its current exploration program.

United’s exploration work focuses on Pakistan’s northern state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and improvement of resource potential at its current coal mining leases in the area.

Though regularly ranked among the most volatile Asian countries for resource investment, Pakistan boasts the world’s seventh-largest coal resources, much of which occurs in the AJK and Thar regions.
