The cause of the incident, which occurred at 4.15pm, is not clear and an investigation will be carried out, according to Anglo American.
The company said the driver of the grader received immediate treatment and was taken to hospital but later died.
Injuries include head, neck and facial injuries with four people treated for possible spinal injuries.
Two have been taken to Mackay for further treatment.
"Our focus is on continuing to respond to the emergency situation, including the treatment and care of injured employees and supporting the affected families and colleagues," Anglo American said.
The Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy has sent mine inspectors to the site.
Moranbah North is one of Anglo American's highest performing mines and comes as a blow to the company that has been ramping up production at the mine and the nearby Grosvenor longwall.
