Platts reported the Edison Mission Energy subsidiary needed to repay, extend or refinance the debt by the maturity date of December 1, 2003.

If this does not happen, Midwest will join the ranks of NRG Energy, PG&E National Energy Group, and Mirant Corporation who have already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this year.

Midwest Generation owns and operates 12 electric power generating facilities in Illinois and also supervises operation of a plant in western Pennsylvania.
