The former minister claimed he did not do any favours for the coal mining executives, but used the money to assist his children’s efforts to get into the property market.

Nuttall will face sentencing today from District Court Judge Patsy Wolfe and could face seven years in jail according to the Australian newspaper.

The newspaper also reported that Nuttall will face more corruption charges, coming from the state’s Crime and Misconduct Commission and involving an alleged secret payment of $180,000 when he was the health minister in 2005.

From the final court proceedings, the ABC reported the prosecution argument that the state government had approved a $26-million loan for an infrastructure project near a Macarthur Coal mine.

AAP reported former Queensland Premier Peter Beattie as saying Nuttall’s actions will forever be a black mark on his government’s record.
