Last Friday WA Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls announced the funds would go towards infrastructure projects in Geraldton, Eneabba, Northampton and Yalgoo.
“Communities within the shires of Carnamah, Yalgoo and Northampton and the City of Greater Geraldton will all benefit from the latest allocation of funding,” he said.
Geraldton students will certainly benefit from the plan, with $3 million expected to fund the Geraldton Universities Centre stage 2 building over the next two years.
The remainder of the funds will boost health, community and economic development in a one-year funding plan.
The shire of Northampton’s light industrial area development will get $661,000 while $285,909 will help fund the Yalgoo community hub’s covered sports facility.
Silver Chain Eneabba remote area health centre will receive the least amount of money, with $100,000 to be delivered over one year.
Grylls said the four projects would support the community with an enhanced quality of life conducive to expected growth in the Mid West.
“In providing funding to the region, the Royalties for Regions principles of developing strong and vibrant regional communities are being developed and maintained,” he said.
“Potential employment opportunities will result for local businesses in the planning, construction and operational stages of the projects.”
The projects are part of the $220 million Royalties for Regions funding for the MWIP, which will assist in the implementation of infrastructure projects deemed essential to the Mid West region.
