The board is seeking to determine whether there are any possible gaps between:

  • The “statutory position” roles as performed at NSW coal operations;
  • The competency standards in the relevant National Training Package Qualifications; and
  • The Coal Competence Board’s statutory examination syllabus.

The next workshop will be held between 8am and noon on July 8 at the Western Mines Rescue Station at 3 Proton Avenue in Lithgow.

Wollongong Gold Club and Best Western City Sands at 151-161 Corrimal Street will host the second workshop the following day, also between 8am and noon.

Mining supervisors who have obtained Certificates of Competency within the last five years from the state’s Department of Primary Industries are encouraged to attend and provide their input at the workshops.

Apart from those in mine management positions, the board would also like to see engineers, registered training organisations, industry representatives and members of the Panel of Examiners attend.

Registrations are open until July 3 and lunch will be provided at the workshops.
