Two of the 17 workers trapped underground at the Chinese Fanjiasi mine remain missing.

Rescuers continue to pump water from the mine and are installing cables, water pipes and telephones to aid rescue efforts, official news agency Xinhua reported.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, December 28, when workers broke into a worked-out section during routine maintenance operations, Xinhua said.

Five of the 22 workers underground at the time of the accident managed to escape.
