French was previously the vice president - business excellence with BHP Billiton and has also worked as executive general manager of Western Mining Corporation’s Copper-Uranium Business Unit.
Anglo Coal global CEO John Wallington said French would bring proven skills in operational, safety and business improvement to the coal division and the Australian operations.
French will take up his appointment on November 1.
Wallington also paid tribute to outgoing acting CEO, Neville Sneddon.
“Neville has been instrumental in refocusing Anglo Coal Australia’s safety improvement effort, and has led the business effectively through this transition period,” Wallington said.
Sneddon will be retiring from Anglo Coal Australia.
