New gas detector released

The new offering combines up to four sensors in one unit but costs little more than an equivalent single gas detector because, uniquely in the gas detection market, Zellweger manufacturers its own sensor technology. The X4 series is available in single, 2 or 3 gas variants as well, to provide the most cost effective gas detection solution available in the market.

“Based on proven Zellweger Analytics pellistor, catalytic bead and electrochemical cell technology, ImpulseX4 provides reliable measurement of the levels of flammable gas, Oxygen (O2), Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and Carbon Monoxide (CO). In the event of the unit detecting unsafe gas levels, distinct audio (95dB), visual (high intensity red light) and vibrating alarms are triggered, ensuring the operative has clear warning to leave the area, even in poor visibility or noisy conditions.”

Zellweger Analytics Reflex technology continuously polls the sensors to ensure optimal and continued performance. The unit carries out a self-test every-time it is switched on and continues to emit an intermittent confidence beep and flash confirming its operational status until it is switched off again. The bright, back-lit display, which can be read from any angle, shows all gas readings continuously, along with battery and calibration status. A unique one button flip display feature means there is no need for the user to unclip the unit from the belt to read it.

The ImpulseX4 comes in a tough, plastic housing sealed to IP65, and is claimed to be the only portable gas detector of this kind to carry the T4 rating for high temperature environments (up to 135°C).

The ImpulseX4 has also been designed for maximum electromagnetic (EMC) compatibility, to meet the EN50270:1999 and EN55011 standards.

The unit has an advanced data logging capability and comes complete with the necessary software for collating data into Microsoft Excel and other common text and graphical formats for reporting and auditing.

ImpulseX4 is described as a reusable gas detector, for maximum simplicity in inventory administration and lowest cost of ownership. The unit can be simply discarded (or returned to Zellweger Analytics for environmentally-responsible disposal) and replaced when necessary. Alternatively units can be shipped back for a complete service and refurbishment program so as to meet all types of client’s cost of ownership constraints.

ImpulseX4 has been designed with a long calibration interval of up to six months (or to meet local regulations). Bump testing is simple and quick, for cost-effective operation at the highest levels of availability and safety.

“We found that customers in the portable, compliance market for gas detection wanted simplicity of operation without compromise in reliability or functionality,” said chief development officer, Les Ivie.

“Like a mobile phone, ImpulseX4 is a feature-rich unit, in a readily accessible, economic format, which is ready to go out of the box. This unit has had over six months of actual beta field use prior to its release and has been exposed to our most vigorous internal testing and refinement processes.”
