The awards are presented annually at the association’s state meeting to companies that exemplify mine safety.
Delbarton Mining’s preparation plant received the Joseph A Holmes Pacesetter Award for Mine Safety for the best injury incident rate of all surface and underground mines employing 11 to 25 employees in the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s District Four.
Endurance Mining also received a Pacesetter Award for achieving the best injury incident rate of all surface facilities employing 26 or more employees.
Marfork Coal’s Cedar Grove Mine was recognised by the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training for achieving an exemplary safety record among companies producing 100,000 tons of coal or less during 2005.
A non-profit organisation, the Joseph A Holmes Safety Association promotes health and safety in the mining industry.
