The latest survey of QRC member companies has revealed the proportion of women working in non-traditional roles in the mining and energy sector has grown from 7% in 2006-07 to almost 10% in 2007-08.
Non-traditional roles include jobs such as operators, engineers and tradespeople.
Overall, women make up 11.3% of the total Queensland resources workforce.
“While women are still under-represented in the sector, the upward trend is a pleasing result,” said QRC chief executive Michael Roche.
Through its Women in Resources Action Plan, launched in 2006, the QRC hopes to see the proportion of women in non-traditional roles rise to 12% by 2020.
“We are well on track to meeting and exceeding that target,” Roche said.
