The number of advertised vacancies for engineers increased by almost 20% during the period, the recruiter found in its latest survey, with civil, electrical and mechanical engineers in most demand.
There were 884 civil job vacancies advertised Australia-wide during the quarter.
Sydney had the largest share with 239, Brisbane was next with 182, then Melbourne with 161, Perth with 125 and regional Queensland with 57.
RPRN tracked job demand across most of the engineering fields and in each state and territory.
Queensland showed the most dramatic increase of the states with a 75% rise in job vacancies.
Western Australia was surprisingly inactive for the quarter, considering its large mining and construction projects underway, though it did have an 18% rise in the number of mining production vacancies.
Both civil and electrical engineer vacancies rose by about 40% in Victoria while New South Wales had a 25% lift in the civil category.
RPRN principal Jack Foley said the results clearly recognised the effects of the resource boom, coupled with increased infrastructure spending by state governments.
But he said the figures needed to be taken into context.
"Whilst this trend is obviously upwards, in line with other published employment data, individual projects such as the Eastlink Freeway in Victoria where construction is just commencing, can skew the numbers of a single quarter," Foley said.
