Kato-2 was spudded on March 4 and is being drilled to target the Walloon coal measures, the target for many of the CSG-LNG projects in the state.
The well is the second in a two-well exploration campaign in ATP 593P and is an extension of work already carried out in the adjoining ATP 771P where almost 200 petajoules of proved, probable and possible reserves have been certified.
The first well in ATP 593P, Kato-1, was drilled in November and interested 9.8m of net coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures along with 7.6m of net gas bearing carbonaceous shale.
Final results on Kato-1 are expected at the end of the March quarter.
Senex is operator and holds a 45% stake in ATP 593P and ATP 771P.
