Cyclone disrupts Aussie Anglo met coal production

The Dawson coal preparation plant maintenance shut-down was brought forward to partially mitigate the impact on full year production.

Production at the Moranbah North mine was impacted by ongoing equipment design issues which should be rectified during the longwall move planned for Q3 2015, according to the company.

Grasstree continued its strong performance delivering record production.

Anglo American’s combined Australian and Canadian export metallurgical coal production decreased by 17% for the quarter following Canadian operation Peace River Coal being put on care and maintenance in Q4 2014 and the lower Australian production.

Australian export thermal coal production increased by 86% to 1.4 million tonnes due to change in product mix and increased productivity.

South African export thermal coal production increased by 5% to 4.3Mt due to productivity improvements across all export operations.

Eskom production decreased by 6% to 7.0Mt mainly owing to reduced demand for New Vaal coal and planned reductions at Kriel prior to the move to the new mining areas.

Domestic non-Eskom production increased by 25% to 1.7Mt due to increased domestic production at Zibulo and Greenside.
