Supreme Court decision gives US coal miners a boost

The company's shares soared by more than 2% on the NYSE last night.

In a statement, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said he was “thrilled that the Supreme Court realized the rule’s immediate impact and froze its implementation, protecting workers and saving countless dollars as our fight against its legality continues.”

While the court’s order is only, it indicates the court’s conservative majority has misgivings about the Obama administration’s emissions plan.

It might also mean that the rules could find resistance in the courts, which might hamper the administration’s ability to follow through on US commitments for the Paris climate deal.
