The online event led by NIOSH’s Office of Mine Safety and Health Research is set for December 6, beginning at 11am Eastern time and adjourning by 3pm.
“The Office of Mine Safety and Health Research has been supporting the development and ultimate commercial availability of Mine Safety and Health Administration-approved wireless communications and electronic tracking systems to satisfy the requirements of the MINER Act,” the agency said.
“A significant portion of this support has been in the form of contracts to manufacturers to stimulate the development of CT equipment for coal mines.”
The OMSHR has internally developed a research effort to examine the coal mine environment’s impact on wireless systems. One of the effort’s goals is to share findings and progress reports with interested parties on a regular basis.
The webinar, which has been designed for users, regulators, or manufacturers of CT equipment for underground coal mines, will begin with a review of basic CT technologies including ultra-high-frequency communications such as node based or mesh systems; medium frequency systems where a radio signal propagates along existing electrical conductors; through-the-earth systems in which a signal propagates directly from the surface through overburden; and several electronic tracking technologies.
Deadline for webinar registration is December 5. Attendees will receive a computer log-on and call-in email.
