Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney has signed the contract for the next two stages of the Blue Ridge development in Blackwater and approved the acceleration of Stage 2 of Bushlark Grove in Moranbah.
"More than fifty allotments will go on sale in both projects, with more lots being released as demand dictates," Seeney said.
"To date the limited supply of residential land in Blackwater and Moranbah has had an adverse impact on the availability and affordability of housing.
"Actions such as this … will contribute to addressing the stresses on land supply and housing in these regions in the shortest possible time.”
Lots in Blackwater will range in size up to 1000 square metres to suit the expected demand from the resource sector.
"Civil works are now underway and we expect construction work on houses to commence by March 2013, so residents should be settling into their new homes around this time next year,” Seeney said.
"I know that both the Blackwater and Moranbah communities are passionate about their towns, so I am pleased to be able to assist in addressing the housing issues they have been dealing with over recent years.
Blackwater's Blue Ridge will provide almost 160 lots, and neighbouring parks to the development will be improved by adding playground equipment and community barbecues.
Blue Ridge residents will have views to the Blackdown Tableland National Park and easy access to the town centre via bikeways and walkways.
Moranbah's Bushlark Grove will comprise more than 150 lots and incorporate parklands and recreational facilities.
