The apprentices are employed through training provider SKILLED and will complete four-year electrical or mechanical apprenticeships at the open cut coal mines.
The new recruits will join 29 other apprentices already undertaking training at Hunter Valley Operations and Mount Thorley Warkworth.
Mount Thorley Warkworth general manager operations Mark Rodgers said: “Coal & Allied is pleased to welcome the eight Hunter Valley locals starting their apprenticeships with our operations.
“With the support of our group training partner SKILLED, the new apprentices will receive training and hands on experience in a safe and supportive environment for their chosen trades.
“The program provides apprentices with a great start in the mining industry and it allows Coal & Allied to tap into a pool of talented workers, consequently building capacity in the Hunter Valley.”
Apprentices will also complete a six month study period at the Hunter Institute Muswellbrook Mining Industry Skills Centre, where they will learn valuable life skills such as driving, safety awareness and financial management.
