Narrabri is Australia's No 1 longwall: Whitehaven

The New South Wales mine's exceptional longwall performance in FY2015 has advanced the second longwall changeout to Q4 FY2016.

“The record main and gate road development of 19,800 metres ensures longwall continuity,” the company said.

Narrabri’s saleable coal production (equity) of 5.0 million tonnes was 1.3Mt or 37% above production in FY2014.

Whitehaven is predicting ROM coal production for FY2016 in the range of 6.6Mt to 6.8Mt.

The 400 metre wide panels are now scheduled to commence in LW07 in H2 FY2017.

The state-of-the-art Isogo power station in Japan uses Narrabri coal and is currently testing Maules Creek coal, Whitehaven said.

“If Japan’s coal fired generating efficiency was adopted elsewhere, carbon dioxide emissions would reduce by 1.5 billion tonnes a year,” the company said.
