DSI and Mastermyne forge partnership

The partnership has already resulted in the first longwall chute road consolidation project undertaken in an underground mine in the Bowen Basin.

DSI has developed the suite of strata consolidation products for cavity filling and strata stabilisation to complement their existing product range and further leverage their strong position in the ground support market.

The new Mineral Bond product has the ability to be injected under pressure to stabilize broken and faulted ground and has a significant advantage over existing products due to its exothermic curing temperatures which are significantly less than many of the products currently in the market.

Mineral Bond is a urea silicate resin and complements the Strata Bond range of polyurethane resins also supplied by DSI.

Another newly introduced product is the phenolic cavity fill known as Mine Fill.

Mine Fill is a phenolic resin that both complies with the European reduced formaldehyde threshold levels and has passed the German (DMT) Fire Test.

Mine Fill cavity foam has a significant advantage as a cavity filler due to its 50+:1 expansion factor. The DSI phenolic based strata binder Fixorapid is also now approved for use and has the advantage of being pumped at a 4:1 ratio meaning the same pump as the cavity filling pump can be used.

As further leverage from the introduction of the new products, Mastermyne has attained the licensing to be the installer of the products in NSW and Queensland, providing a partnership that enables the cost of installation to be significantly reduced.

Mastermyne installs the product as part of a bundled suite of services using existing labour from other works which ultimately means that the operator is not paying a premium to carry the peace of mind of having personnel on site and ready to pump at a moment’s notice.

This unique combination of product and installation makes for a cost effective solution and provides operators with a cheaper alternative to how things are currently done but with the same quality outcomes, according to Mastermyne.

All products are approved in Queensland and NSW and the DSI / Mastermyne partnership has already completed several projects, including a consolidation of an underground mine access drift in NSW using Mineral Bond to consolidate roof and stop water ingress through the roof and a longwall chute road project in Queensland to consolidate strata in preparation for a longwall take off.

They have also injected the products around seal sites to prevent gas leakage from the surrounding strata.
