Maules Creek gets warning

Maules Creek coal mine is implementing a series of noise mitigation works in relation to fixed plant equipment.

While some noise mitigation works have been implemented departmental compliance staff will continue to monitor the implementation of remaining noise mitigation works, it said in its June compliance report.

“The department has published a compliance policy and associated guidelines for breach management, prosecutions and penalty notices to assist authorised officers in exercising their powers in a fair, consistent and equitable manner,” it said.

“The documents also help the community and other stakeholders understand how the department goes about its work.”

Whitehaven’s proportion of metallurgical coal sales is expected to increase progressively over the next four years as its high quality Maules Creek semi-soft coking coal gains greater market acceptance and term based contracts are concluded.

The GlobalCOAL NEWC Index price averaged $51.61/t for the June quarter. Sales of the high quality Maules Creek thermal coal achieved an average price of $56.15/t for the quarter representing a premium for quality and CV uplift of 8.8% on the index price for the quarter.

Whitehaven has agreed a number of supply contracts for both thermal and metallurgical coal with buyers of Maules Creek coal during the quarter.
