Sindh Coal Authority told Dow Jones the mine was expected to produce one million tonnes of thermal coal per annum.
The mine will be located in the Sonda-Jherruk coalfield, estimated to contain seven billion tonnes of coal reserves.
CMEC was established in 1978 as China’s first national corporation integrating foreign trade with industry. It deals principally in contracting international engineering projects, exporting complete plants and equipment, importing and exporting mechanical and electrical products and engaging in external economic and technical cooperation. Its turnover in 2004 was $US1.7 billion.
Dow Jones Energy Service reported the 18-month study would begin within a month.
