Being double-skinned, the IEEP products have various advantages including the ability to help inhibit fires and reduce maintenance costs.
Another advantage is that the products can be manufactured for almost any machine in almost any situation.
The outer skin on the IEEP products is impervious to fuels and oils, to which they are often exposed during operation in the mining world.
It is highly impact resistant and can be water blasted as often as needed without damage to the outer skin.
The IEEP technology is designed so age will not weary it, nor heat. It is also made in such a way that its fibres do not become exposed, thus preventing the potential for skin irritation to fitters.
Compared to blankets, double walled insulation pipes are economical and look neater. They also will not absorb moisture the way blankets almost always do.
Thermal image testing has been done on various vehicles in the industry to ascertain the level of performance when retrofitted and compared to the performance of traditional single skinned pipes and blankets.
One particular vehicle – a large dozer – had the IEEP double skinned pipework installed running from its turbo through to the exhaust silencer.
The pipework at the entrance to the IEEP double insulated pipework was measured at 182C. At the point where the double insulated pipework began, thermal imaging revealed the temperature dropped to below 85C.
In comparative tests using the original single skinned pipework with blankets, the section from the turbo to the silencer was running at 95C below the blanket.
