Skyline’s total incidence rate for 2009 matched its performance in 2008, totaling 0.82 incidents per 200,000 man hours worked, Arch spokesperson Kim Link confirmed to ILN.
The RMCMI, which covers and eight-state region eight states in the western USUnited States, bestows the safety honor annually to an underground mine for the prior calendar year.
"This ongoing safety performance is proof positive of the dedication of the men and women of Skyline," Arch president John Eaves said.
"Day in and day out they live by their safety values and for this they can be very proud."
The 175-worker Skyline mine is owned by Arch subsidiary Canyon Fuel. The operation has sold a total of 10 million tons of coal during the four years Skyline has taken home the award, 2006-2009.
The member states of the non-profit RMCMI include are Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
Its membership includes surface and underground mining individuals, equipment manufacturers, service/supply firms, utilities, coal transporters, law firms, government, universities and colleges, financial institutions, and other industry stakeholders.
