Crutchfield, an employee of Alpha since its inception in November 2004, was named president of the company in January of this year. Prior to joining the producer, he served as president and in executive roles for Coastal Coal, AMVEST and Cyprus Australia Coal.
"I'm delighted to have Kevin join the board where he will bring a deep understanding of the company's growth and development strategy as well as a thorough operational perspective," said Alpha chairman Michael Quillen.
In August, Crutchfield was also appointed to a one-year term as first vice-chairman of the board of the West Virginia Coal Association.
Alpha controls 58 mines and 11 preparation/blending facilities in four states.
