The contractors were employed through Macmahon and HMP Constructions to do pre-stripping work, with Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union district vice-president Steve Pierce previously telling International Longwall News most of the cuts hit the Goonyella Riverside operation near Moranbah.
Reported by ABC News, Premier Anna Bligh said the state government would work closely with both BMA and the sacked workers.
She said flying squads would be dispatched to help workers find other jobs.
The squads are mobile teams of cross-agency representatives that offer support to displaced workers in regional areas.
