Operations director Mandi Glad said the production record came in the month Liviero Mining took over mining at Vanggatfontein following the termination of Megacube Mining’s contract.
Keaton chief executive officer Rowan Karstel said Vanggatfontein performed superbly during July despite operational challenges.
Vanggatfontein dispatched its first 5 Seam coal in December 2010. During 2011 it commissioned its 4 and 2 Seam plant and started coal deliveries to Eskom.
A key focus at the operation is ramp-up to steady-state production of 175,000 tonnes per month of 4 Seam and 2 Seam coal to meet the contracted Eskom offtake.
The operation is expected to produce 2.4Mt per annum in the future.
Besides Vanggatfontein, Keaton has the Vaalkrantz anthracite colliery near Vryheid in KwaZula-Natal province.
That mine has been in production since 2003.
In the six months to September 2011, Vaalkrantz produced 205,715t of anthracite.
The operation is expected to produce 2.4Mt per annum in the future.
