A lack of housing and community infrastructure, typically accompanied by high rents, is a common theme in many mining towns around the country.
"The mining boom has created jobs it has also put pressure on these communities with houses in short supply,” Bligh said.
"Declaring UDAs will enable this affordable housing to be fast tracked using accelerated planning powers," Bligh said.
"This will be done in full cooperation with local councils which have asked for our help to deal with housing stress.
"These projects will deliver not just affordable homes but also a range of housing styles from one bedroom apartments to larger family homes.”
