New shearer for Newstan

Fitted with the latest generation J525 ranging arms and AC haulage, this 7LS2A is the third unit confirmed for the Australian coal industry in the past six months.

“The commitment by our customers to the JOY 7LS2A shearer is based on the proven reputation for reliability and low operating cost,EJoy said in an internal newsletter.

“When combined with the outstanding production performance proven in the North American industry, the JOY 7LS2A is seen as an important component for enhancing Australian longwall performance.

Joy said replacing Newstan’s existing shearer with the Joy shearer is seen as critical by the mine. Joy was working on a plan to fly the shearer to Australia on a very short delivery time frame, depending on completion of the coal block currently being mined.

Newstan Colliery operates in the West Borehole seam at working heights between 3.1 metres (10 feet) and 4.0 metres (13 feet).

Centennial Coal is an Australian-owned thermal and coking coal producer, which supplies both domestic and export markets primarily through term contracts.

Centennial Coal’s 13 mines are located in the Western, Southern, Central Coast and Lake Macquarie Coalfields of New South Wales and in Central Queensland.
