Horizon and James River fight it out

Platts Coal Trader reported Horizon was defending a lease it had issued on some coal reserves in eastern Kentucky to James River Coal. James River is currently Chapter 11 and are looking to do away with undesirable contracts.

Horizon subsidiary’s East Kentucky Energy and Fairview Land are fighting a James River bid to reject a lease it has on a property in Pike and Floyd counties. The reserve is named Mohawk deep mining on Hammond’s Branch and the 1999 lease is with James River’s McCoy Elkhorn Coal unit, Platts said.
